It use to be that images depicting Mohammed weren't all that frowned upon. Muslim artists across the board and the world indulged in such representations of their prophet. However, a line was drawn with the advent of cartoons. When such pedestrian strips as Apartment 3G and Zits revealed themselves, Muslim clerics laid down the law. They couldn't risk Mohammed being an extra or even a recurring character finding himself at odds with Nancy or the dude's retarded dog friend. But now those Danish evildoers are at it again promoting free speech through funny yet poorly drawn comics. Thus unleashing a maelstrom of Muslim outrage. Which we all know is simply a release of aggression that they feel toward their own oppressive governments. It's mass mentality at its finest. Extremist know that people are angry but are afraid to speak out against their own but still need to vent their frustration. So individual accountability is nonexistent allowing for those to unleash their own frustration against a false target of anger. The cartoons are thinly veiled (no pun intended) excuses to take to the streets and blow off some steam without getting your head, hand or genitals cut off for speaking the truth about why you really are mad.
